Why Does the Super Bowl Use Roman Numerals?

Published by kelley77 at 9:15 pm under Uncategorized Edit This

3681614165.jpgHave you ever wondered why the Super Bowl games are designated with Roman Numerals? I have too. Roman Numerals have been around for thousands of years and the only 2 places we see them now are on clock faces and the Super Bowl (if you don’t count the Rocky movies).

I’ve asked around and done some research but no one seems to know why they are used. I guess it’s possible that the NFL uses them to make the game look more important. That might have been a big deal 40 years ago but now it’s one of the biggest events of the year.

True NFL fans accept the Roman Numerals almost as an homage to the gods. It gives the image of the classic gladiator battles. Newer NFL fans have a tough time figuring out which number the game is because they didn’t have to learn them in school as some of us did.

Nothing like some good Roman Numeral math. Anyone know what XXIV + CLII equals? My kudos to anyone who posts the correct answer in the comments.
