Chad Pennington, Comeback Player of the Year, Again
For the second time in 3 seasons, Chad Pennington has won the Comeback Player of the Year award. I’d have to say this time, he really deserves it.
Pennington was unceremonially dumped by the Jets when they signed Brett Favre during training camp. Fortunately for Chad, he was picked up by the Miami Dolphins rather quickly.
The story has it that he left that day for south Florida and didn’t come back up to the New York area until week 17 of the season. I heard that he and his wife had just bought a house in New Jersey and she stayed behind to sell it and ready everything for the move down south.
Chad also set a personal career record for passing yards with 3,653 yards. His completion percentage was 67.4%. He threw 19 touchdowns and only 7 interceptions. Although the Dolphins did run the wildcat offense during most of the games this season.
I guess Pennington is getting some satisfaction that his team is going to the playoffs and the Jets are at home, without a head coach and maybe without a quarterback.
His teammate, the always outspoken Joey Porter said “He was our savior,” Porter said. “He changed this whole team. He’s not the one that’s going to brag about it. He’s just an old, humble country boy. So I’m going to brag for him.”
I think there are a lot of people bragging for him. He deserves it.
